Peripheral Artery Disease Can Be a Silent Killer. Attend Our Free Screening on Jan. 16 to Learn if You Are at Risk.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is when large and medium-sized peripheral arteries — which supply blood to the head, organs and limbs — become narrow or clogged and restrict blood flow.

PAD is dangerous and potentially deadly.
Most often found in the legs, PAD is caused by the buildup of plaque (atherosclerosis). It can cause pain, disability, organ failure and other serious consequences to lifestyle and health — even death. Also, atherosclerosis in the peripheral arteries is often accompanied by the same problem in the coronary arteries, which is heart disease.

If you’re at risk, get screened for PAD!
PAD on its own threatens vital organs, risks loss of limb and life and affects productivity, lifestyle and quality of life. Also, PAD is associated with a much higher risk of heart disease. So it’s important to get screened if you have these risk factors:

  • Cold, painful, tingling or burning legs
  • Leg pain that subsides with rest
  • Loss of sensation in the legs
  • Poor wound healing
  • Over age 50
  • Personal history of smoking or heavy alcohol consumption
  • Family history of PAD or CAD
  • Heart disease
  • High cholesterol
  • Poor diet
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Lack of exercise/physical activity

PAD screening is as easy as it is important!
PAD screening is noninvasive, easy and quick. Using ultrasound and simple pressure cuffs, our vascular specialists measure the pressure in your arms and legs to identify and located atherosclerosis. We also measure lipid levels, which are important in determining PAD risk.

Don’t take chances with your health! If you have any of the above risk factors for PAD, it’s important to get screened. It’s too easy, fast and painless to protect your health… and maybe even your life!
